A New Approach to Water and Oil Repellency—Without Fluorine

Traditionally, fluorinated polymers have been the benchmark for water and oil repellency. Maflon’s R&D strategy has focused on overcoming this dependency by engineering fluorine-free polymer capable of delivering comparable.

The result is a new generation of fluorine-free solutions based on methacrylic polymers.


Fluorine-Free Penetrating Sealers for Stone, Tile and Concrete

At the core of Maflon’s surface protection portfolio is the HYDROSIN® ST line, a patented family of fluorine-free penetrating sealers developed for stone, tile, concrete and mineral substrates.

These systems are designed to:

  • deeply penetrate porous substrates

  • preserve the natural appearance of the surface

  • provide high oil repellency, stain resistance and easy-to-clean properties

HYDROSIN® ST sealers work within the substrate, ensuring long-lasting protection and UV resistance, even at low dosage levels. Both water-based and solvent-based versions are available, allowing formulators to optimize performance according to application requirements.


Crosslinking Technologies for Water-Based and Solvent-Based Systems

To further enhance durability, chemical resistance and long-term performance of fluorine-free formulations, Maflon has developed a new generation of crosslinking technologies specifically engineered for both water-based and solvent-based systems.

HYDROSIN® B Line – Blocked Isocyanates for Water-Based Systems

For aqueous formulations, Maflon introduces the HYDROSIN® B line, a patented family of blocked poly-isocyanates designed to meet modern safety, regulatory and processing requirements.

Key features of the HYDROSIN® B line include:

  • complete absence of MEKO, DMP, VOC and DIPA

  • low deblocking temperature, enabling energy-efficient curing

  • excellent compatibility, TDI & HDI.

  • improved durability of water and oil repellency, abrasion resistance and washing fastness.

HYDROSIN® BS Line – Advanced Blocked Isocyanates for Solvent-Based Systems

For solvent-based applications, Maflon offers the HYDROSIN® BS line, a new generation of high-performance blocked poly-isocyanates developed for demanding industrial coatings.

The HYDROSIN® BS line is characterized by:

  • MEKO, DMP & DIPA free formulations

  • low deblocking onset temperatures, among the lowest available on the market

  • BS-131 high efficiency in crosslinking hydroxyl-functional resins such as polyesters, acrylics and alkyds

These crosslinkers are ideal for coil coatings, automotive finishes, industrial protective coatings.

High-Performance Fluorine-Free Surfactants

The new HYDROSIN® line offers high-performance fluoro-free surfactants for both water-based and solvent-based systems. Designed to enhance wetting, leveling, and product stability, they effectively reduce surface tension even at low concentrations. Ideal for paints, adhesives, industrial cleaners, and polishes, HYDROSIN® ensures efficient and sustainable solutions for various industrial applications.

Fluorine-Free Solutions for Leather

Maflon has extended its fluorine-free technology to leather finishing, addressing the growing demand for sustainable alternatives.

Maflon’s fluorine-free leather treatments are designed to:

  • provide durable water repellency

  • maintain the natural look, softness and hand-feel of leather

  • offer partial oil repellency, sufficient for everyday protection against light oils and stains

Based on methacrylic polymers and advanced polymer dispersions, these products penetrate leather fibers effectively, ensuring long-lasting protection without altering surface aesthetics.

They can be applied in both pre-coat and top-coat systems and are suitable for full-grain, nubuck, suede and nappalan leathers.
